Knowledge By the end of the lesson, students will be able to give and respond to compliments. - Vocabulary: - active, activist, nominate ( v ), nomination, charity ( n ) - Language: compliments. 2. Skills: Listening, reading 3. Attitude: Help ss to have good consciousness in order to give and respond to compliments. B. Preparations 1.Teacher: Lesson plan, textbooks, pictures, poster, CD, Computer, projector, loudspeaker 2. Students: Unit 8 Speak C. Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: What and Where, Word - cue drill, Making dialogues. D. WARM UP (5 minutes) Revision adjectives: - Have students review adjectives. - Get students to make sentences. ... - The first student has to use the adjective beginning with the letter A. The second student has to use the adjective beginning with the letter B. The third with C... * Ex: S1: I have an active friend. S2: I have a beautiful friend. S3: I have a clever friend. ............... - Go on until the last student with the adjective beginning with the letter Y. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. NEW LESSON (36minutes) Step 1 : Pre Speaking : 1. Vocabulary : 1. ( translation ) 2. ( translation ) 3. ( translation ) 4.(explanation: kindness in giving help to the poor) Sts : - listen. - listen and repeat (chorally then individually). - copy. * Checking vocabulary: What and Where 2. Model sentences: - Set the scene: Trang has just won the first prize in the English speaking contest. What does Mai say to pay Trang a compliment? And what does Trang respond? Eg : Mai: Well done, Trang. Trang: Thanks. - Ask students how to give and respond to compliments. Step 2 : While Speaking : 1. Word - cue drill: - Have students practice giving and responding the compliments. - Have students work in pairs then closed pairs. 2. Making dialogues: - Ask students to work in pairs, to read the situation on page 66, 67 the give and respond to compliments. - Give feedback. - Call on some pairs of students to act out. Step 3 : Post Speaking : - Divide the class into 4 teams: A, B, C, D. - Have students work in groups to think of situations n which they can give compliments. - Ask team A to give the situation, team B, C, D to make up the dialogue. - Have the teams take turns giving the situations. - Give good marks for the teams which give good situations and make up suitable dialogue. LỜI KHEN NGỢI Khi khen ngợi thành tích của người nào đó ta có thể dùng những câu sau: Well done! (Làm tốt lắm.) Good job! (Rất tốt!) I'm proud of you! (Tôi tự hào về cậu.) You deserve it! (Cậu xứng đáng với điều đó/ thứ đó.) Good for you! (Rất tốt!) Ví dụ 1: A: Mom, I passed the exam! (Mẹ ơi, con đỗ rồi!) B: Really? I'm proud of you! (Thật ư? Mẹ tự hào về con!) Ví dụ 2: Your essay is very good. Well done, Tom! (Bài luận của em viết rất hay. Khá lắm, Tom ạ.) Để đưa ra lời khen về một vật của người khác ta có thể dùng những câu tương tự như những câu sau: Your house is so beautiful. (Ngôi nhà của bạn đẹp quá!) I really love/ like your house. (Tớ thực sự rất thích nhà của cậu!) What a nice house! (Ngôi nhà đẹp quá!) How gorgeous your house is! (Ngôi nhà của bạn thật lộng lẫy!) Isn't your house beautiful! (Ngôi nhà của bạn rất đẹp!) You look very good in that dress! (Trông em thật xinh trong chiếc váy đó.) This soup is so delicious. My compliments to you! (Món súp này ngon quá. Skills: Reading 3. Attitude: Help ss to have good consciousness in order to Read and understand the text about the opinions, feelings and memories of children about their father. B. Preparations 1.Teacher: Lesson plan, textbooks, pictures, poster, CD, Computer, projector, loudspeaker 2. Students: Unit 8 Read C. Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: Pelmanism, Prediction, Comprehension questions. D. Procedure : I.Organization: ( 1 minute) - Greeting: Good morning! - Who’s absent today? Class Date of teaching Absent students 9A 11/3 9B Steps/ Activities Content II. WARM UP (5 minutes) Pelmanism: - Prepare twelve cards with numbers on one side and the dates ( 6 cards ), the celebrations ( 6 cards ) on the other side. - Make sure the celebrations and the dates are mixed up. - Stick the cards on the board so students can only see the numbers. - Divide the students into two teams and ask each team to choose two numbers in turns. - Turn over 2 cards at a time and see if they match. E.g: Independence Day - 2/9 - Give them one mark. If not, turn the cards over again and ask the next team to choose. - Continue until all the cards are finished. III. NEW LESSON (35minutes) I. Prediction * Setting the scene: On Father’s Day in Australia and in the USA, children show their love to their fathers by giving their fathers presents, cards. - Ask students to think of the adjectives that children use to talk about their fathers. - Give feedback. II. While Reading : 1. Reading and checking - Have students read the opinions, feelings and memories of children about their fathers on Father’s Day in Australia and the USA. - Ask them to compare the adjectives they guess with the adjectives Rita, Bob and Jane use to describe their fathers. 2. Comprehension questions - Get students to work in pairs to answer the questions on page 69. - Give feedback. Teacher can ask students to write the answers on the board. - Have students practice asking and answering the questions in open pairs and then closed pairs. III. Post Reading : Writing: - Have students write their feelings, opinions and memories about their fathers. Three passages are samples. SUMMARY (2 minutes) - Reading for details about children’s emotion on Father’s Day. V.
