OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to… 1. Knowledge By the end of this lesson, students will be able to read and get information about an article about Vietnamese capital, review comparative and superlative, read in details about a city in Vietnam and cities around the world. Vocabulary: review adjectives to describe. Structure: comparative and superlative Skills: Listening, Speaking 2. Competences - They will improve listening and speaking skills. - They will develop the competences such as self - control, independent- learning, creativity and problem-solving. 3. Qualities - Students are active to broaden and percept the knowledge - Students can talk about a place they know. - They will have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work, cooperative learning. II. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS. Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers, DCR & DHA on EDUHOME, handouts… III. PROCEDURE A. Activity 1: Warm up (5’) a) Objective: to introduce the new lesson b) Content: Look at the pictures and choose the places they like c) Product: to have general ideas about the content of the lesson. d) Competence: Observation e) Organization of the activity: Teacher's and Students’ activities Contents - T shows a pair of pictures each time - Ss choose the one they like and say the reasons. - T gives feedback, then leads to new lesson. Example: - (country / city) Country - peaceful - (China / Singapore) Singapore - cleaner - ……… B. Activity 2: New words (10’) a) Objective: to have Ss learn some more vocabulary about the topic b) Content: New words (page 84). c) Products: Ss can know how to pronounce the new words correctly and talk about some places they know. d) Competence: Communication, collaboration, critical thinking e) Organization of the activity: Teacher's and Students’ activities Contents Presentation - T teaches some new words by using some techniques. - Ss listen and give the meanings of words - T guides Ss to read the new words - Ss repeat in chorus and then individual - T checks Ss’ memorization of new words by asking them to play the game: Slap the board Practice - T lets students look at the pictures, read the sentences carefully and fill in the blanks with words given. (exercise a/p. 84) - Ss look at the pictures and do the task. - T has Ss compare the answers with their friends. - Ss compare - T gets Ss to show the answers - Ss give the answers - T checks as a whole class. - T plays the recording - Ss listen and repeat. Activity 2: Reading (10) a) Objective: to help Ss know more about Ha Noi b) Content: Reading (page 85) c) Products: Ss can expand their knowledge and can improve their reading comprehension on the topic. d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, analytical and synthezing skills e) Organization of the activity: Teacher's and Students’ activities Contents Pre-reading: - T sets scene of the reading part by showing a picture of Ha Noi - Ss listen and observe - T have Ss explore the task. - Ss do as requested. OBJECTIVES 1. Knowledge By the end of this lesson, students will be able to talk about them; - Vocabulary: review words relate to the topic of the lesson - Structure: comparative - superlative - Skills: Reading, Speaking, Writing 2. Competences: - Students can use the knowledge to complete the exercises, practice the language aspects in communicative situations. - They will improve reading and speaking skills. - They will develop the competences such as self - control, independent- learning, creativity and problem-solving. 3. Qualities: - Students are active to broaden and percept the knowledge - Students will know more about the cities in Viet Nam and in the world. - They will have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work, cooperative learning. II. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS. Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers, DCR & DHA on EDUHOME, handouts… III. Activity 3: Speaking (15’) a) Objective: to help Ss compare the cities using superlatives and comparatives b) Content: Speaking (page 85) c) Products: Ss can use what they have learnt correctly d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, presentation e) Organization of the activity: Teacher's and Students’ activities Contents Pre – speaking: - T demonstrates the activity - Ss listen - T shows the table of some places and asks Ss to tell some information about these places - Ss give the answers - T leads to the main part. While – speaking: - T asks students to compare cities around the world, use the information in the table. (a/p. 85) - T gets Ss to work in groups. Each group chooses two cities to talk about. - Ss work in groups - Representatives from groups go to share the presentation to class. - T checks and gives feedback. Post- speaking: - T asks a student some sentences of comparison to model the task. - Ss work in pairs, practice A&A as directed - Some pairs present in front of the class. - T checks and gives feedback a. Look at the table and compare the cities using superlatives and comparatives. Tokyo is the most expensive city. Cape Town is colder than Da Nang. Examples: My city is smaller than Da Nang My city is hotter than Tokyo, Japan. D. Activity 4: Writing (20’) a) Objective: to help Ss put all the target language into producing the language b) Content: Writing (Page 85) c) Products: Ss can use the target language to write a paragraph about Seoul which is about 50 – 60 words d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, analytical & synthesizing skill, creativity e) Organization of the activity: Teacher's and Students’ activities Contents Pre writing: - T shows a table on the screen, explains how to do with it. Teacher asks a student as modeling. - Ss work in groups, discuss about the food in their country. - Ss fill in the table with the information. - Ss show their result to class. (individually) - T checks and gives feedback. While writing: - T has Ss use their notes and the table to write a paragraph about Seoul - Ss work individually to write a paragraph (50-60 words) - T gets Ss to cross check their work with a partner - T calls on some Ss to put their work on the board - Ss observe/ present the writing to the class - T gives comments and takes notes some mistakes on the board. Post writing: - T asks Ss to talk about Seoul - Ss volunteer to present their answers in front of the class. - T listens and corrects some mistakes Seoul Where it is In South Korea, ………….. Weather Famous for Interesting facts a. Write a paragraph about Seoul (using the notes) or a city you know. Write 50 to 60 words Seoul is the capital city of South Korea. It's also the most populated city in the country. Seoul has hot summers and cold winters. It is famous for its modern buildings, palaces, and old houses. There are many shopping malls in Seoul. It is also the home of some of the biggest companies in the world and many famous South Korean actors and singers live there. Knowledge By the end of this lesson, students will be able to review features relate to cities around the world and some adjectives to describe places. - Vocabulary: words relate to describe the cities - Structure: comparatives and superlatives - Skills : Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening 2. Competences - Students can use the knowledge to complete the exercises, practice the language aspects in communicative situations. - They will improve reading, speaking, writing and listening skills. - They will develop the competences such as self - control, independent- learning, creativity and problem-solving. 3. Qualities - Students are active to broaden and percept the knowledge - Students will show their interest in the cities around the world. - They will have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work, cooperative learning. (Apartment, opera house, boat, peaceful, crowded, ……..) - Ss work in pairs, read and complete the open spaces in the sentences. - T checks and corrects. - Class follows, gives questions if necessary.
