Knowledge By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the connectives: and, but, because, or, so, therefore, however - Vocabulary: organize, raise/reiz/, war invalid/’ invə¸li:d/ , shortage, decade /'dekeɪd hoặc dɪ'keɪd/, assignment. - Structure: connectives 2. Skills: - Writing 3. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice completing the sentences. B. Preparations 1.Teacher : posters, computer, speaker, projector. 2. Students: Unit 7 Language Focus 1 C. Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: Bingo, Brainstorming, Noughts and Crosses. D. Procedure : I.Organization: ( 1 minute) - Greeting: Good morning! - Who’s absent today? Class Date of teaching Absent students 9A 23/2 9B 22/2 Steps/ Activities Content II. WARM UP (5 minutes) * Bingo: - Ask students to write down in their notebooks 5 words. - Prepare a list of connectives. Then call out each word in a loud voice. - Students listen to the teacher carefully. If anyone has the same words, they cross it out. The first student crossing out all 5 words shout “Bingo” and win the game. III. NEW LESSON (37minutes) Step 1 : Presentation 1 : - Provide students 5 verbs + prepositions and then ask them to match the verbs with the pictures on page 63 . Answer keys: - Picture 1: look after the baby. - Picture 2: go on (wasting paper) - Picture 3: turn on TV. - Picture 4: look for. - Picture 5: turn off the faucet. Step 2 : Practice 1 : - Have students work in pairs to do Language Focus 2 exercise on page 63. They have to use suitable verbs to complete the sentences. Step 3 : Presentation 2 : * Brainstorming: - Ask students to think of connectives that they’ve learnt. - Have students go to the board and write down the connectives. - Give feedback. - Ask students to give Vietnamese meanings. Step 4 : Practice 2 : - Have students work individually to do the exercise Language focus 1 on page 62. They have to complete the sentences by using correct connectives. - Ask students to work in pairs to compare their answers. - Give feedback. Have some students read aloud the completed sentences, check their pronunciation and the meanings. Step 5 :Production : Noughts and Crosses: - Divide the class into two teams. One team is Nought ( O ) and the other is Cross ( X ). - Have two teams choose the words in the boxes in turns. And make sentences with the connectives given. If the sentence is correct, they will get one mark. - The team which has 3 Noughts or 3 Crosses in a line will win the game. - Draw this chart on the board and the game begins. * Possible answers: 1) Do you want to take a bath or take a shower? 2) I’ll get a plumber to check the pipes and to repair the faucets. 3) He got up late so he had to take a taxi to school. 4) It’s raining but he is still going swimming. 5) Her English is not good therefore she decides to practice more. 6) Baths use twice as much water, so I suggest taking showers. 7) The water bill is enormous this month because there is a crack in the pipes. 8) I suggest taking showers and fixing the faucet. IV. SUMMARY (1 minutes) - Practice in connectives: and, but, because, or, so, therefore, however and some phrasal verbs. Make suggestions. V.
