Competences: - Talking about vacations - Describing characteristics of friends and neighbors. Talk about hobbies, describe a process. 3.Skills: - Speaking: Talking about vacations, describing characteristics of friends and neighbors, talking about hobbies and describing a process. - Listening: Listen to monologues / dialogues within 80-100 words for general information - Reading: Read dialogues and passages within 100-120 words for general or detailed information. - Writing: Write a process / make notes within 60-70 words with word cues 4. Grammar: - Tenses: Present simple, Past simple - Wh-questions: How much? How far? - Regular vs. irregular verbs - Comparatives of adjectives: more, less, fewer 5. Vocabulary: - Words describing a process: first, then, next, … - Words related to hobbies and characteristics: collect stamps, favorite, sporty, II. Unit plan: Unit 9: At home and away (5 periods) Lesson1 : A1 Talking about vacation activities using “ was/ were” and some other past form verbs. Lesson 2: A2 Reading the text and about the Robinson for details and practice making “ WH- question” in the past simple tense Lesson3 : A3 Lesson4 : B2 Past simple tense with negative Yes/ No questions and short answers to talk about past activities Lesson5 : B4 Reading for details about Hoa’s sewing work and futher practice in Wh questions to talk about past activities Date of preparing: 6/1/2022 Period: 55 UNIT 9 : AT HOME AND AWAY LESSON 1 : A1 A. The aims of the lesson 1. Knowledge - Use the past simple tense to talk about past activities, write some regular and irregular past verbs. - By the end of the lesson , Ss will be able to use the past simple tense. They will know about some of the irregular verbs and regular verbs - Vocabulary: Aquarium, souvenir, gift - structure: The past simple tense : + be / was, were, + have/ had + visit/ visited + take/ took, + buy/ bought, + go/ went + return/ returned + talk/ talked - Notice: (/d/; /t/; /id/) 2. Skills: - To write some regular and irregular past verbs. - Retell the things which Liz did in Nha Trang. - Practice listening, reading and speaking , writing skill. 3. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice reading for detalis, doing some exercises. B. Preparations 1.Teacher : posters, computer, speaker, projector. 2. Students: Unit 9 A1 C. Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: Chatting, Matching, Ordering, Presentation dialogue, Word Drill, Guessing game. D. WARM UP (3 minutes) Chatting. - Ask Ss some questions such as : a) Do you enjoy going on a picnic ? b) Where do you often go on summer vacations ? c) What do you usually do during the vacation ? d) Have you ever been to Nha Trang ? e) What do you think about Nha Trang ? - SS answer - Remark and lead in the new lesson Today we will visit one of the most beautiful places, it’s Nha Trang . We’ll know it through a dialouge III. NEW LESSON Step 1 : Presentation(13ms): 1. Vocabulary : 1 Pre-teach ( picture) ( explain) ( explain) ( trans) - aquarium (n) : hồ, bể cá - souvenir (n) : quà lưu niệm - gift (n) : quà tặng - be-> was/ were : thì, là - take -> took : dẫn - have -> had : có, ăn - go -> went : đi - buy -> bought : mua Checking : Matching - Ask Ss to match the words with their meanings . Checking : Ordering - Ask Ss to listen to the text then number the verbs in the order they hear. Teacher reads : Liz went to Nha Trang with her parents . They took her to Tri Nguyen aquarium . Liz bought a lot of gifts. The Robinsons had a great time in Nha Trang . - Give feedback and correct. 2. Presentation dialogue ( A1.P86 ) - Set the scence: Liz and Ba are talking about her recent vacation in Nha Trang. Have students to read the dialogue and number the sentences on P.87 Now they are the phrase words about Nha Trang she thought.Please read the dialogue and match them. - SS work in pairs to match - T calls some students to answer - T gives feedback Concept check : Look at the first sentence : + Is the subject single or plural ? - plural + What is the verb ? - were Look at the 2nd sentence : +Is the subject single or plural ? - single + What is the verb ? - was + Is the event in the past or at the present ? - in the past Step 2 : Practice(18ms): - Give some cues then ask Ss to practice asking and answering . - Call on some pairs to ask and answer in front of the class Eg: S1: How was the vacation ? S2: It was wonderful. - Ss practice in whole class/ halves/ pairs Step 3 : Production(7ms): Guessing game - Ask each student to prepare a piece of paper - Write the sentence on it : “ Last vacation I was in ………….” The other Ss predict the place * Eg : S1 : Were you in …… last summer vacation ? S2 : Yes, I was/ No, I wasn’t - The student guesses the correct place will continue control the game IV. SUMMARY (1 minute) - The past simple tense . - The irregular verbs and regular verbs be-> was/ were : take -> took : have -> had : go -> went : buy -> bought : V. Skills: - Practice the comprehension reading skill,writing and speaking skill. 3. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice reading, listening for detali, doing some exercises and use past simple tense. B.
