Structure: Present Continuous (be + V-ing) By the end of this lesson, students will be able to use the Present Continuous to talk about ongoing actions; ask and answer about personal appearance. 2. Competencies: - Students can use the knowledge to complete the exercises, practice the language aspects in communicative situations. - They will raise motivations and interests in learning English as a foreign language - They will develop the competences such as self - control, independent- learning, creativity and problem-solving. 3. Qualities: - Students will build their love for their friends and classmates. - They can improve speaking skill, listening skill, writing skill. - They will have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work, cooperative learning. II. Teaching aids: - Teacher’s aids: student’s book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, ISB software, projector/interactive whiteboard/TV. - Students’ aids: Student’s book, notebook, workbook. Activity 1: Warm up a) Objective: Introduce the new lesson and set the scene for Ss to acquire new language; get students' attention at the beginning of the class by means of enjoyable and short activities as well as to engage them in the steps that follow. b) Content: Review the -ing form. c) Product: Ss review the vocabularies of the previous lesson d) Competence: Collaboration, analytical skill, communication. e) Organization of the activity: - T has Ss review the spelling of the -ing form of verb by giving some verbs and ask Ss to ad -ing. - Ss do as requested - T gets Ss to write answers on the board - T tells Ss about another grammar point that contains -ing form they are going to study in the new lesson - T leads to the new lesson - Ss listen Examples: 1. wear 2. stay 3. study 4. put 5. make 6. have 7. go 8. miss B. Activity 2: Grammar a) Objective: Ss know how to use the Present and Present Continuous tense. b) Content: - The usage of Present (verb: be) and Present Continuous tense - Circle the correct words c) Products: Ss can use the Present and Present Continuous tense in everyday communication. d) Competence: Communication, collaboration, presentation e) Organization of the activity: Presentation - T has Ss look at the picture - Ss look at the picture - T plays the audio (CD1 – Track 32) - Ss listen and read the speech bubbles - T plays audio again and has Ss listen and repeat. - T has Ss close books - Ss do as requested - T show a picture on the screen and ask Ss to make comments on the clothes of the boy in the picture - Ss do as requested - T has Ss pay attention to the tense used in these sentences Lead to the grammar point: Present Continuous - T explains more about the form, usage of the Present Continuous - Ss listen - T has Ss open books and read the grammar box - T asks Ss to give some examples, using this tense Practice - T demonstrates the activity, using the example. - Ss listen - T asks Ss to circle the correct words. - Ss do as requested - T has Ss work in pairs to check each other’s work - Some Ss share their answers with the whole class - T gives feedback, correct Ss’ answers if necessary - T sets the scene of the dialogue. - Ss listen - T has Ss practice filling the dialogue (pairs) - Ss exchange the answers to cross check. - The answers are shown through a game. - T checks and corrects the answers. - Students practice reading the dialogue in pairs. - A pair presents in front of the class. - T checks their pronunciation and intonation. Production - T gives an extra activity: Choose a secret student. - Ss in class ask and answer questions to find who the secret student is. Examples: The boy is wearing a green hat. The boy is wearing an orange T-shirt The boy is wearing blue shorts *Form: I am He/ She/ It + is + ( not) V-ing We/ You/ They + are Question: Am / Is / Are + S + V-ing? *Usage: talk about ongoing actions *Adverbs: at the moment, now, Look! ... *Note: When we use present continuous to describe personal appearance, we do not use the adverbs Task 1. Knowledge and skills: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to correctly speak the sound /bl/; ask and answer about what people look like and describe friends in class. - Pronuncation: sound /bl/ - Skills: Speaking skill, listening skill 2. Competencies: - Students can use the knowledge to complete the exercises, practice the language aspects in communicative situations. - They will raise motivations and interests in learning English as a foreign language - They will develop the competences such as self - control, independent- learning, creativity and problem-solving. 3. Qualities: - Students will build their love for their friends and classmates. - They can improve their pronunciation and speaking skill, listening skill. - They will have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work, cooperative learning. Practice - T plays the recording again - Ss listen and repeat with a focus on the sound. - T calls on some Ss to read in front of the class. - Ss do as requested - T checks Ss’ pronunciation if necessary - T lets Ss practice the sound /bl/ together. - Ss practice reading the sentences with partners. Activity 3: Practice a) Objective: Ss can ask and answer about what people look like. b) Content: Asking and answering by using the pictures c) Products: Ss can apply the target language learnt naturally in communication. d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, creativity, public speaking. e) Organization of the activity: - T emphasizes the structure used to ask about personal appearance: What does he / she look like? - Ss listen - T asks some pairs of Ss to play a role & read aloud the conversation. - T asks Ss to underline some words that can be replaced. - A pair of students replace the underlined words with words given as models. - T has Ss practice in pairs, role play the conversation. - Another pair makes a conversation with their own ideas, then present in front of the class - T corrects the student’s pronunciation. Task 1: Practice the conversation, swap roles & repeat. Example: A: I’m looking for my friend. B: Is your friend a boy or a girl? A: My friend is a girl B: What does she look like? Activity 4: Speaking a) Objective: Ss can describe people. b) Content: Asking and answering questions about looking for friends at a party. c) Products: Ss use the language provided confidently, fluently and naturally. d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, creativity, public speaking. e) Organization of the activity: Pre speaking - T sets the situation: “ You are looking for your friends at a party” - Ss listen - T demonstrates the activity by practicing role-play with a student - Student practices with teacher While - listening - T has Ss work in pairs. - Student A use information in File 1 (p.120) and Student B use information in File 8 (p.123) - T gets Ss to role-play the conversation, swap roles and repeat - Ss do as requested - T observes, gives help if necessary - T has Ss take turns to describe and guess their friends in class - Ss work in pairs - T asks some Ss to present in front of the class - Ss present in front of the class. - T gives feedback and evaluation Post speaking - T has Ss look at these pictures and describe their appearance. - Ss do as requested - T corrects and gives feedback. a. Knowledge and skills: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to know more vocabularies that can go with “go”, “play”, “have”, “watch” and “make” and invite someone to do an activity. - Vocabulary: barbecue (n); mall (n) ; center (n) ; invite (v) ; free (adj) - Skills : Reading, Speaking, Listening, Writing 2. Competencies: - Students can use the knowledge to complete the exercises, practice the language aspects in communicative situations. - They will raise motivations and interests in learning English as a foreign language - They will develop the competences such as self - control, independent- learning, creativity and problem-solving. 3. Qualities: - Students are active to broaden and percept the knowledge - Students will build their love for their friends and classmates. - They can improve reading skill, speaking skill, listening skill, writing skill. - They will have the good attitude to working in groups, individual work, pair work, cooperative learning. Activity 1: Warm – up a) Objective: Introduce the new lesson and set the scene for Ss to acquire new language; get students' attention at the beginning of the class by means of enjoyable and short activities as well as to engage them in the steps that follow. b) Content: Introduction of some after school activities. c) Product: Ss know more activities they are going to study in the lesson. d) Competence: Collaboration, creativity, communication. e) Organization of the activity:  Game: Acting - T invites 1 St who will be the actor to stand in front of the class. - St volunteers to be an actor - T give this student some small pieces of paper with a verb phrase inside. - St takes the piece of paper - T has this students act (use body language) to demonstrate the activity - The rest of the class guess what the verb phrase is - T has Ss give a big applause to the Ss who have the right answer - T gives feedback and lead to the new lesson. Verb phrases: go shopping, play badminton, watch a movie, have a party, make a pizza B. Activity 2: Vocabulary a) Objective: Ss know more vocabularies that can go with “go”, “play”, “have”, “watch” and “make” b) Content: - Filling in the table - Adding more words to the table c) Products: Ss know how to pronounce the new words correctly and use them in appropriate situations. d) Competence: Communication, collaboration, presentation, listening, creativity. e) Organization of the activity: Presentation - T uses some techniques to elicit new words. - Ss observe and listen - T asks Ss to give the meaning of the new words. - T has Ss listen and repeat each new word. - Ss repeat all the words (individually - chorally). - T corrects student’s pronunciation if necessary. - T checks Ss’ vocabulary by asking Ss to play the game: Slap the board - Ss are divided into two teams (4 Ss in one team) to join the game - T remarks Practice - T has Ss put the words in the correct groups. - Ss do the task individually. - T calls on some Ss to write on the board, then checks their answers. - T gives feedback, - T explains to Ss which words go with each verb.
