Aims: - Understand and know how to use modal verbs : can, should, must and ought to and give advice. - By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to understand and know how to use modal verbs : can, should, must and ought to and give advice. 2. Practice skill: - practice the comprehension reading skill,writing and speaking skill. .Knowledge + Standard knowledge: Understand the dialogue between Nam and Ba; answer the questions; practice the dialogue; know how to use modal verbs. + Advanced knowledge: Use modal verbs to complete B4 . Basic language: - Vocabulary: ought to , a table tennis paddle, spare - structure: modal verbs 2.Skill: - practice the comprehension reading skill,writing and speaking skill. 3. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice reading,speaking and doing some exercises and use modal verbs. B. Preparations 1. Teacher: lesson plan, English 7-book, computer, projectors 2. Students: review the grammar points and vocabulary, English 7-book, C. Techniques: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: Jumble words, Presentation dialogue, Word cue drill. D. Procedure : I.Organization: ( minutes) - Greeting: Good morning! - Who’s absent today? And ask sts if they know the words. - Ss have 1 minute to prepare. - Call some ss to write the words on the board. III-New lesson Step 1: Presentation(8’) 1.Vocabulary: ( Trans) ( Synonym) (realia) ( trans) ( explain) ( trans) Sts : - listen. - listen and repeat (chorally then individually). - copy. Check : What and where. 2. Presentation dialogue: B1.p134 - Set the scene : Look at the picture, Who are they? ( Nam and Ba). What are they talking about ? Now listen their dialogue - Teacher reads the dialogue for model. Ss listen and read. - Ask Ss to answer 3 questions below the dialogue: b,c,d. * Concept check - Meaning - Form Are “ should , ought to , must” model verbs? (Yes.) Where are their positions? (Before main verb.) What is the form of the main verb?(Infinitive without to) - Form : S + Model verb + V( inf ) - Use. - Pronunciation. Step 2: Practice(15’) Word cue drill - Teacher runs through the cues. - Teacher models: What should Nam do before he plays table tennis? He ought to do his homework. He must do his homework. - Ss practice in halves / pairs. Aims: - Making an invitation, accepting and refusing it using model verbs. - By the end of the lesson , Ss will be able to know how to make an invitation, to accept and refuse it using model verbs. -Knowledge + Standard knowledge: Making an invitation, accepting and refusing it using model verbs. + Advanced knowledge: make the similar dialogues. . Basic language: - The tense: simple present tense and modal verbs. 2. Skill: - practice speaking skill and writing skill. 3. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice speaking, making some similar dialogues. B. Preparations 1. Teacher: lesson plan, English 7-book, computer, projectors 2. Students: review the grammar points and vocabulary, English 7-book, C. Techniques: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: Presentation dialogue, Dialogue Building D. They make another appointment - Teacher reads the dialogue – Ss repeat - Ss practice in halves / pairs Step 2: Practice(15’) - Ss practice to make the new dialogues , using the cues given in the box. - Teacher runs through the cues - Teacher models: S1: Come and play volleyball , Nam. S2: Well , I should visit my grandmother. S1: Can you play on the weekend ? S2: All right. See you on Saturday afternoon. Step 3: Production(8’) 1. Dialogue building - Let Ss make their own dialogue and copy down , using one of three bottom pictures on page 135. - Teacher goes round , takes notes and corrects before the class. 2. Aims: - Read the text for details about scuba- diving and use "could/couldn't" to talk about past ability - By the end of the lesson, Ss will have some knowledge about scuba- diving and use "could/couldn't" to talk about past ability - The knowledge + Standard knowledge: Read the text for details about scuba- diving and use "could/couldn't" to talk about past ability. + Advanced knowledge: Retell the content of the text. - Basic language: - Vocabulary: underwater , vessel, (to) explore , (to) invent , special breathing equipment - The tense: simple past tense, could/couldn't. 2. Skill: - practice comprehension reading skill . 3. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to read the text for details.
