Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a formal letter of inquiry to be given information about an English course 2. Skills: Writing 3. Attitude: - Positive about learning a forreign language. - Students know how to learn English in right way. 4. Competence and quality: 4.1. Competence: - General capacity:self-learning ability, communication capacity, capacity to use language, cooperation capacity,… - Specilized capacity:English language ability, develop self capacity,.. 4.2. Quality: Love family and country, willing to participate in social activities, live humanty, cooperate with people around,… II./.PREPARATION: 1.Teacher: book, planning, picture, laptop, projector 2.Students: books, notebooks III./.PROCEDURE 1. Organization 1’ Class Date of teaching Absent students 9A 9B T’s and Ss’ activities Content ACTIVITY 1 (WARM-UP) (5’) a. Aim: Set the scene, lead students to the main part of the period. b. Content: Active words and structures c. Outcome: Ss’ understanding, ability of using the words and structures d. Organization: * The answer 1. She asked the boy not to go out. 2. He asked he would buy a new house. 3. She asked me to give her some pictures. 4. They asked their friends to remember to turn off the light before going out. - T divides the class into two teams. T asks Ss from 2 teams to go to the board and write the correct words. The team which is faster with more correct words will win the game. - T corrects and Ss take note . 2. ACTIVITY 2: PRESENTATION (15’) a. Aim: Students can memorize some new words b. Content: vocabulary, set the scene, structures c. Outcome: students can read and write the new words d. Organization: - T says “ A letter of requiry is a requests for information or action. Letter of requiry is a kind of formal letters. And in all formal letters, you must include the addresses of the writer and the recipient. Beside, you must adopt strike regulations about the format and structure of the letter. “ - T hangs “Formal Letters format” on the board and explains . - Ss listen carefully and take note. - T asks Ss to read John Robinson’s letter sending to the Language Center. To attend a English course. - Ss read and find new words. - T gives new words on the board. - Ss guess meaning of new words. - T reads new words twice and Ss listen carefully and repeat. - Ss take note. - T reviews by playing “ Slap the board” - T asks Ss to read the letter written by John Robinson on page 37. And then answer the questions. - T says “ Now you read the advertisements in 5 READ again. Choose one of the schools you want to attend to improve your English . Write a letter inquiry to the institution requesting for more information about the courses and fees. Your writing should closely follows the outline in the book and it should appropriately consist of 4 main parts : A . FURTHER INFORMATION B. CONCLUSION C. INTRODUCTION D. REQUEST - Ss match, then T corrects. The answer: C – 4 ; D –1 ; A – 2 ; B – 3 . 3. ACTIVITY 3: PRACTICE (20’) a. Aim: Helps students to write a letter. b. Content: - answer the questions in the questionaire. c. Outcome: ss can do the task correctly d. Organization: - T asks Ss to write a letter of requiry. -Ss work in group, every group writes one part. - Ss give the answer on the board. - T corrects the mistakes. - Ss take note. 4. ACTIVITY 4: APPLICATION (5’) a. Aim: Stundents apply the knowledge they learnt in practice b. Content: Discussion c. Outcome: students’s talks d. Organization: ask students to mae an order of the letter 3) I saw your Institute’s advertisement on Today’s TV program. I am very interested in learning English and I would like some information about your Institute. 4) 30 Hong Ha street HCM City Dear Sir, 5) Could you please provide more information about the length of courses and fees for beginners? Mouse team receives part 1 and Cat team receives part 2. Then Ss find “ partner” to make a full sentence. After Ss find finishing “ partner”. Ss will give full sentences on the board. - T corrects and introduces new lesson. 2. ACTIVITY 2: PRESENTATION (15’) a. Aim: Students can memorize some new words b. Content: vocabulary, set the scene, structures c. Outcome: students can read and write the new words d. Organization: - T explains the way to use “ the conditional sentence “ - T reviews the conditional sentence . - Ss listen carefully and take note. - T explains the conditional sentence with modal verb . - T gives the examples on the board. - Ss do the examples and take note 3. ACTIVITY 3: PRACTICE (20’) a. Aim: Helps students to do some exercises b. Content: - answer the questions in the questionaire. c. Outcome: ss can do the task correctly d. Organization: - T says “Now you do exercise 1. Complete the sentences. Use the modal verbs in brackets and the information in the box “. - Ss work in pairs ( close pairs) - Some pairs practice the dialogue before the class. And Ss give the answer on the board. - T corrects - Ss take note. - T asks Ss to look at the table in part 2 page 38 to change direct speech into reported speech. - Ss work in group. - Then Ss give the answer on the board. - T corrects by playing “ Lucky numbers” - Ss take note. - T says “ Lan’s father held a party to celebrate his mother’s birthday. Unfortunately , Mrs thu, her grandmother, has a hearing problem and she couldn’t hear what people were saying. Aim: Stundents apply the knowledge they learnt in practice writing sentences b. Content: writing sentences c. Outcome: students’s talks and writing d. Organization: Teacher asks students to write 10 sentences by using conditional sentences and reported speech. Do it at home IV.Consolidation (2’) use modal verbs with “if”; Direct and reported speech to talk and do exercises well V.
