(5 questions) Chuck Many people in my region celebrate something called carnival. The name comes from two Latin words meaning ‘say goodbye to meat’. The festival happens just before a month where we try not to eat so much. A lot of people enjoy the festival, but then they don’t follow the rule about eating! People wear amazing clothes in bright colors, and there is a big parade in most cities. Jane At Christmas in my country, people give each other gifts on the actual day, 25th December. Many children get lots of gifts, so it was my favorite time of year when I was younger. I also loved the special things made of paper, called crackers. I take one end and you take the other and pull. The cracker breaks with a bang, and one person gets a paper hat and a little present from the cracker. Ali In my culture, we have a holiday every year after the month which is called Ramadhan. During that month, we do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. This is very difficult in my own country, where one day only lasts about 12 hours, even in summer, but now I live in Britain, and summer days are more than 16 hours long. Questions: 1 Who does not talk about food? A. Chuck B. Jane C. Ali 2. Who says a tradition is easier to follow in their own country? A. Chuck B. Jane C. Ali 3 Who writes about reasons for liking a festival? A. Chuck B. Jane C. Ali 4 Who says costumes are part of a festival? A. Chuck B. Jane C. Ali 5.Who says presents are part of a festival? A. Chuck B. Jane C. Ali Ex 3. Read the website article about teenagers and choose the best answer for each question. (5 questions) What do teenagers need? Perhaps the most important thing is enough sleep. Between the ages of 13 and 19, our brains and bodies change a lot. Sleep helps those changes to happen, so teenagers need more sleep than 12-year-olds. Teens sometimes sleep for 11 or 12 hours on the weekend, but scientists say about nine hours is the correct amount, up from about eight hours at a younger age. Unfortunately, teenagers cannot normally go to sleep before 11 p.m. because of the changes in their bodies. In most countries, they then have to get up most of the year at 6.00 or 7.00 to be in time for school. It would be better if high schools in countries around the world started at 11.00 or 12.00, but they do not, so parents must find other ways to make sure their teenagers get enough sleep. Firstly, teenagers could sleep for half an hour as soon as they get home or after dinner. This is better than letting them sleep late on the weekend. If a teenager wakes up at a later time on two days a week, it will be much harder to go back to the earlier time on school days. Secondly, teenagers should not use laptops or cell phones late in the evening for games or social media. The light from these devices makes it harder for the body to feel tired. Questions: 1 What is the right amount of sleep for a 14-year-old? A. 8 hours B. 9 hours C. 11 hours D. 12 hours 2. Which of the following sentences is NOT true according to paragraph 2? A. Teenagers don't usually go to bed earlier than 11 p.m. B. The changes in teenagers' bodies make them go to bed late. C. Only parents can help teenagers get enough sleep. D. Some schools start later to help teenagers get enough sleep. 3 In the second paragraph, they means ______________. A. all schools B. high schools C. teenagers D. countries 4 What does This mean in the third paragraph? A. Sleeping for half an hour B. Half an hour C. Home D. Sleeping after dinner 5 What happens to teenagers if they use an electronic device late in the evening? A. They spend too long on social media. B. They play games late into the night. C. They don’t want to turn the device off. D. The screen light stops the body getting ready for sleep. ******************** Date of planning:25.04.2025 Period 99 REVIEW THE FINAL SECOND TERM TEST 1.
