Activity 1: Warm up (5') a. Aims: Check the lesson, lead in the new lesson. b. Contents: Answer the questions c.Outcome: students' answers d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Greetings Who is absent today? What is the date today? Warm up: Chatting Do you often write letters? Who do you often write to? What kinds of letters are they? How many parts are there in a format letter? What do you have to write in each part? - Answer teacher’s questions: Yes, I do. I often write to my friends. They are format letters. There are four parts in a format letter. They are: Heading: Date. Writer’s address. Opening: Dear + name, Body: Contents of the letter. Closing: Regards. 2. Activity 2: Presentation (12’) a.Aims: help ss to memorize some new words, Set the scene b.Contents: Vocab (luxury, ask some questions. c.Outcome: ss can memorize how to read and write some new words, know how to write this letter. Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1. Pre writing a. Preteach vocabulary enhance(v) (trans) : tăng cường, đề cao support(v)(trans): ủng hộ to have a day off: explan: nghỉ 1 ngày nationwide(adv): toàn quốc Check vocab by rub out and remember. b. How to write this letter? - Has students read the outlines on p 70, then asks them some questions: How many parts are ther in the contents of the letter? What do you express in each paragraph of the letter? What time do you think suitable time to celebrate? How do you suggest celebrating the days? - Listen then repeat chorally, then individually. - Detemine meanings and accent marks. - Copy the words. - Remember then reproduce the words. - Read the outlines on p 70, then answer teacher’s questions: There are three parts. First paragraph: Tell your friends the reason to celebrate this day. Second paragraph: Give details about when to celebrate: 1st Sunday of April. How to celebrate: have parties, send cards. What special gifts to give: gifts to Mom, gifts to Dad. What special food to offer: Third paragraph: State whether or not you think your ideas will be supported. 3. Activity 3: Practice (18’) a.Aims: Ss can write a letter to a friend to tell him, her why you want to celebrate Mother’s day and Father’s day in Vietnam and how to celebrate it. b.Contents: write a letter c.Outcome:Ss’answers. d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities - Has students read the outlines on page 70 again then work individually writing a letter to a friend to tell him, her why you want to celebrate Mother’s day and Father’s day in Vietnam and how to celebrate it? Monitors and corrects mistakes. - Work individually, wirting a letter to a friend to tell him, her about this suggested ideas. Sample writing: Dear Nam, In my opinion, it is necessary to have a day to celebrate for our parents, because it is an occasion for children to express their feelings, memories and love to their parents. We have an opportunity to enhance family traditions and family Members can have a chance to be together.I think the first Sunday of April is the most suitable time for us to celebrate.It is not necessary to have big partites but it is a good idea to have lunch or dinner for all family members. Chidren should give their parents flowers and special gifts. I belive the idea will be supported and the day will be celebrate nationwide because everybody loves parents and wants them to be happy. 4. Activity 4: Application (10') a. Aims: further practice . b. Contents: compare the writing with a partner,then give ideas c.Outcome: Ss’answers. d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Correction - Asks students to compare the writing with a partner,then give ideas and correct mistakes. - Monitors and helps. Consolidation: write a letter to a friend to share idea Homework: Guides students to do homework and prepare Language focus. - Compare the writing with a partner. - Look at the partner’s writing and give ideas, and correct mistakes.
