Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a passage about the benefits of the Internet. 2. Practice skill: - Practice writing skill. 3. The knowledge needs to get: + Standard knowledge: write a passage about the benefits of the Internet. + Advanced knowledge: Discuss and present the ideas about the disadvantages of the Internet. 4. Basic language : the present simple, words talk about the Internet. 5. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to write a passage about the benefits of the Internet. B. Teaching- aids: Lesson plan, textbooks, computer. C. Methods: individual work, group work. - Some techniques can be used: Jumbled words ,Exhibition: , Discussion. D. III. New lesson : Introduce the aims of the lesson . Step1. Pre- writing : (10’) * Making outline : - Ask Ss to read three main cues about the benefits of the Internet . - Work in group of 4 students to find the answers for the five questions below : 1. What can you say about the development of the Internet ? Is the Internet useful ? - increasingly develop / become part of our everyday life - useful in many ways ) 2. Why is the Internet a source of information ? - a fast and convenient way to get information - read electronic newspapers - check weather condition before going . 3. Can you say the Internet as a source of entertainment ? Why ? /Why not ? - communicate with friends or relative - listen music . - watch movies . - play games . - read novels , poems 4. Is the Internet also a means of education ? Give your reasons ? - learn English - look up a dictionary - take a training / learning course 5. Are there any disadvantages of the Internet ? If so , what are they ? - Ask Ss to work in pairs to demonstrate their ideas about the benefits of the Internet . Step 2. While Writing :(16’) - Have students use the ideas they’ve just discussed to write a passage about the benefits of the Internet. - Monitor and help students with words or structures while they are writing. - Notes of using some conjunctions to write such as thirdly / firstly / finally / secondly / however . - Going around class and provide help if any . Correct some typical mistakes . Step 3. Post Writing :(10’) *Exhibition: - Give feedback and correct. - After students finish, call on some students to read their passages aloud before the class. *Discussion: - Ask students to discuss the disadvantages of the Internet. - Get them to discuss in groups and choose a speaker. - After discussing, the speakers from groups have to present their ideas before the class. * Suggested ideas: - time-consuming - costly - viruses - bad programs - spam/ electronic junk mail - personal information leaking - ....................................... IV. SUMMARY (2 minutes) - Writing a passage about the benefits of the Internet. V. HOMEWORK (2 minutes) - Ask students to write about the disadvantages of the Internet. -Prepare the next lesson: Language focus. write the correct words on the board : read three main cues about the benefits of the Internet . Work in group of 4 students to find the answers for the five questions Students use the ideas they’ve just discussed to write a passage about the benefits of the Internet. 2. Write : * Suggested ideas: Benefits of the Internet The Internet has increasingly developed and become part of our everyday life. And no one can deny the benefits of the Internet. Firstly, The Internet is a source of information. It is really a very fast and covenient way to get information. You can get the latest local or global news easily. You can check weather conditions before you go somewhere; eg. Go camping/ fishing/ outdoor...you can find a timetable and maps of the buses you want to take, you can book your tickets for the next concert or soccer match, trip or hotel etc... Secondly,Internet is a very fast and cheap way to communicate with your friends or relatives by means of email, chatting, webcam. Thirdly, the Internet is a source of entertainment, you can listen to all kinds of music, the radio, watch videos, we use the Internet not only to play games but also to read novels or do virtual sightseeing. Moreover,The Internet is also a rich source of educational materials/ courses. We can learn English through many interesting programs. We can look up a dictionary, take a training or learning course on the Internet. In conclusion,The Internet is a wonderful invention of modern life. And it makes our world a small village. 3. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use tag questions, talk to their friends about things they like or dislike, using gerunds after some verbs. 2. Practice skill: - Practice listening, reading, , speaking, writing skill. 3. The knowledge needs to get: + Standard knowledge:. Tag questions, gerunds after some verbs. + Advanced knowledge: Use tag questions, gerunds after some verbs to make sentences. 4. Basic language : Tag questions, gerunds after some verbs. 5. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice listening, reading, , speaking, writing skill. B. Teaching- aids: Lesson plan, textbooks, computer. C. Methods: individual work, group, pair work. - Some techniques can be used: R & R, Word square, Dialogue Build, Writing. D. WARM UP (5 minutes) * Word square: L M P R A C T I S E I O M I S S D N I M K I R L S T C C K B E N J O Y L O V E O A F V A V U N A K N F I S V O R S V I M I N U U T S I O L L N I G Y N E D I S H I S G E S T E D I I S H B C D E R O D U - Stick the poster on the board. - Ask students to find out 13 verbs in the word square. - Divide the class into two teams, students from each team go to the board and circle the words they have found, then write them down in the column of their team. - The team which has more right words will win the game. III. NEW LESSON (35minutes) Step 1. Presentation : (5’) 1. Vocabulary : 1.( translation 2.( translation ) 3.( translation ) 4.( translation ) - website ( n ): trang web - publish ( v ): ấn bản - cable TV ( n ): truyền hình cáp - Quiz ( n ): cuộc thi đố vui - detective (n) thám tử - article (n) bài báo * Checking vocabulary: Rub out and Remember - Rub out the new words one at a time. Each time you rub out a word in English, point to the Vietnamese translation and ask students to repeat in English. When all the English words are rubbed out, go through the Vietnamese list and get the whole class to call out the English word. 2. Tag questions In lesson 2: Speaking, you have learn about the Tag question. Please tell me “Bạn xem tin tức phải không?” in English. You watch the news, don’t you? - T models – Ss repeat – Check: Pronunciation, intonation, form, usage. * Form: Auxiliary verb + personal pronoun * Use : A tag question has the same auxiliary as in the main clause. If the main clause has the full verb be, we use be in the question tag. If the main clause has have got, we use have in the question tag. We use do, does in present simple question tags and did in past simple question tags. We normally put a negative question tag with a positive statement, and a positive question tag with a negative statement. * Intonation: If we are asking a real question, we use a rising intonation. If we are sure about the answer, we use a falling intonation. Step 2. Practice :(7’) 1. Drill - Ask students to drill sentence by sentence. - Get students to work in pairs, practice asking and answering questions. 2. Complete the dialogue - Have students do the Language Focus 1 on page 45. - Ask students to complete the dialohues individually, using tag questions. - Give feedback and correct. - Get students to practice the dialogues in pairs. Step 3. Production :(6’) Language Focus 2 - Have students look at the table on page 45. - Get them to ask and answer questions about TV programs these people like and dislike, using tag questions. Example: a. Tuan likes news, doesn’t he? - Yes, he does. b. Hanh and Tuan don’t like movies, do they? - No, they don’t. c. Tuan doesn’t like music, does he? - No, he doesn’t. d. Hanh and mai like cartoons, don’t they? - Yes, they do. Step 1. Presentation : (5’) * Dialogue Build: - Set the scene: Hoa and Lan are talking about their favorite activities in their free time. - Show the open dialogue and ask students to build and complete dialogue. * Answer keys: 1. do 2. like 3. playing 4. hate 5. do 6. you 7. watching 8. love 9. do 10) enjoy 11) never 12) it * Revision of gerunds after some verbs. * Form: ... - Teacher can remind some other verbs ... * Form: like love enjoy + V-ing (Gerund ) dislike hate (mind, finish, suggest, consider, deny, keep on ( continue ), miss, can’t help, practice, stand ( bear )) Step 2. Practice :(7’) - Get students to do exercise 3 on page 46. - Have students ask and answer questions about each item in the box. - Give an example - Call on some pairs of students to practise asking and answering. - Give feedback and correction. - Have students work in pairs to ask and answer questions. Step 3. Production :(5’)* Writing: (substitution box ) - Have students write true sentences about their family members, relatives, friends and themselves. - Ask students to look at the words in the three boxes on page 46 and use them as cues. - Give example. - Ask some students to read then write their sentences on the board. - Give feedback and correction. - Get students to continue to write individually. a. My mother hates advertisements on TV but little brother doesn’t, he loves it very much. b. I like writing letters to my friends but my sister doesn’t. She hates writing. IV. SUMMARY (1 minutes) - Practice on using tag question, gerunds after some verbs. V. HOMEWORK (2 minutes) -Do ex: a. Mai can swim, ............? Yes, she can. b. Yes, let’s. - Ask students to write some sentences about their friends, using like, love, enjoy...+ V-ing. * Answer keys: like, consider, finish, avoid love, enjoy, miss, practice deny, mind suggest, finish dislike 1.
