Competences - improve speaking, listening skills. - develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems and other skills. 3. Quality - have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all classroom activities; show love/respect for famous people/ heroes from the Vietnamese history. II. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS. Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal computer (if any), projector/TV, speakers, DCR & DHA on EDUHOME, handouts… III. PROCEDURE A. Activity 1: Warm up (5’) a) Objective: To help Sts relax and get interested in the topic of the lesson b) Content: Watching a movie/ chatting c) Product: Sts may have general ideas about famous people from history. d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, observation, analytical and note-taking skills e) Organization of the activity: Teacher's and Students’ activities Contents - T asks Ss some information about a Vietnamese famous person: (Vo Nguyen Giap, Tran Quoc Toan....) - Ss listen and answer - T shows some pictures about famous kings, queens, and battles from Vietnam. - Ss observe and say the names. Do you know General Vo Nguyen Giap? Where was his hometown? When did he pass away? When was he died? B. Activity 2: New words (15’) a) Objective: To talk about famous kings, queens, and battles b) Content: Circling the correct definitions, talking about famous kings, ... c) Products: Sts have general ideas about some famous people from history in movies. d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, public speaking e) Organization of the activity: Teacher's and Students’ activities Contents Presentation - T teaches some new words by using some techniques - Ss give the meanings of words - T guides Ss to read the new words - Ss repeat in chorus and then individual - T checks Ss’ memorization by asking them to play the game: What and Where - Ss join the game. Activity 3: Listening (15’) a) Objective: To listen for gist / detailed information about Alexander the Great b) Content: Listening and ticking what each person said c) Products: Sts get some useful knowledge about Alexander the Great, improve listening comprehension d) Competence: Collaboration, communication, analytical and synthesizing skill e) Organization of the activity: Teacher's and Students’ activities Contents Pre- Listening : Prediction - T sets the scene: Jim and Lisa talking about the movie Alexander the Great.. - Ss listen - T divide class into 2 teams. - T has Ss look at the question and guess who liked the movie. - T gives feedback. While listening: - T has Ss listen to the recording twice and check their prediction. - Ss listen and check their prediction - T gives out the handouts with the table p.60. - Ss work in groups, listen and tick what each person said. - T gets Ss compare the answers - Ss compare the answers - T asks groups to present their work on the board and cross checking. - Ss do as requested - T plays the recording the last time - T checks answers as a whole class.
