Knowledge By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a simple speech and present it before the class. - Vocabulary: rule, sum up, regularly, solid, separate, sheet, draft. - Structure: The simple present, conditional sentence. 2. Skills: - Writing 3. Attitude: Help ss to have good consciousness in order to write a simple speech and present it before the class. B. Preparations 1.Teacher : posters, computer, speaker, projector. 2. Students: Unit 7 Write C. Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: Shark’s attack, Jumble words, Matching, Ordering, Exhibition. D. Procedure : I.Organization: ( 1 minute) - Greeting: Good morning! - Who’s absent today? Class Date of teaching Absent students 9A 9B Steps/ Activities Content II. WARM UP (5 minutes) Shark’s attack: Cut out a shark ( or a crocodile ) and a school girl or boy from card. - Draw some steps, then stick the cut ouy girl/ boy on top of the steps, the shark is in the sea. - Draw four gaps for the world BODY. E.g: - Get students into team ( or ask them as a whole class ) for a letter in the alphabet. They have to try to guess each letter. If there guess is wrong, the girl/ boy has to step down. If their guess is right, they will get one mark. The game continues until student finds out the word BODY and the shark can’t eat the girl/ boy. - Ask students to continue to guess the words. Conclusion. (10 gaps) Introduction. (12 gaps) III. NEW LESSON (35minutes) Step 1 : Pre Writing : 1. Vocabulary: rule, sum up, regularly, solid, separate, sheet, draft. Vocabulary Revision : (Jumble words) - Write the words whose letters are in a random order on the board. - Divide the class into two teams. Students from two teams go to the board and write the correct words. - The team which writes more correct words first win the game. 2. Matching - Have students match each part of a speech in column A to a suitable function in column B. ... * Answer keys: 1 - B 2 - C 3 - A 3. Ordering : - Have students put the sections in 6b on page 62 in the correct order to form a speech. - Call on some students to read aloud the speech. - Help students to present the speech before class naturally. Step 2 : While Writing : Writing speeches - Exhibition - Divide the class into 3 groups. - Ask each group to a speech about one of these topics ...... * Possible speeches: 1) Reduce garbage. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, my name is ........ and I’m going to tell you how to reduce garbage. Most of us use too much garbage every day. You can reduce garbage by: Collecting plastic bags. Not keeping solid waste with food waste. Putting different kinds of waste in different places If you follow those simple rules, you’ll not only reduce garbage, but also keep the environment cleaner. 2) Reusing paper Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, my name is ........ and I’m going to tell you how to reuse paper. Most of us use too much paper. You can reuse paper by: Having a separate wastebasket for waste paper. Keeping sheets with single printed page for drafting. If you follow these rules, not only will you reduce garbage, but also you’ll save money. 3) Saving energy in the kitchen. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, my name is ........ and today I’m going to tell you how to save money. Most of us use too much electricity, especially in the kitchen. You can reduce this amount by: Turning off the lights before leaving the kitchen Preparing food carefully before turning on the stove. Keeping refrigerator door closed. If you follow these simple rules, you’ll not only save money, but also conserve the resource. Step 3 : Post Writing : Correction: - Have a volunteer from each group present his/ her group’s speech before class. - Correct their mistakes - Give feedback IV. Skills: - Writing 3. Attitude: - Help ss to have good consciousness in order to practice completing the sentences, making suggestions. B. Preparations 1.Teacher : posters, computer, speaker, projector. 2. Students: Unit 7 Language Focus C. Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: Bingo, Brainstorming, Noughts and Crosses. D. Procedure : I.Organization: ( 1 minute) - Greeting: Good morning! - Who’s absent today? Class Date of teaching Absent students 9A 9B Steps/ Activities Content II. WARM UP (5 minutes) * Bingo: - Ask students to write down in their notebooks 5 verbs with prepositions. - Prepare a list of verbs + prepositions. Then call out each word in a loud voice. - Students listen to the teacher carefully. If anyone has the same verb + prepositions, they cross it out. The first student crossing out all 5 verbs + prepositions shout “Bingo” and win the game. III. NEW LESSON (36minutes) Step 1 : Presentation 1 : - Provide students 5 verbs + prepositions and then ask them to match the verbs with the pictures on page 63 . Answer keys: - Picture 1: look after the baby. - Picture 2: go on (wasting paper) - Picture 3: turn on TV. - Picture 4: look for. - Picture 5: turn off the faucet. Step 2 : Practice 1 : - Have students work in pairs to do Language Focus 2 exercise on page 63. They have to use suitable verbs to complete the sentences. Step 3 : Presentation 2 : * Brainstorming: - Ask students to think of connectives that they’ve learnt. - Have students go to the board and write down the connectives. - Give feedback. - Ask students to give Vietnamese meanings. Step 4 : Practice 2 : - Have students work individually to do the exercise Language focus 1 on page 62. They have to complete the sentences by using correct connectives. - Ask students to work in pairs to compare their answers. - Give feedback. Have some students read aloud the completed sentences, check their pronunciation and the meanings. Step 5 : Presentation: Making suggestions - Review some structures to make suggestions S + Suggest + v- ing… S + Suggest + that +S + should + V- infinitive … Step 6 : Practice : - Ask Ss to work in pairs to make suggestions , using the ideas in the textbook . - Example : A : What should we do to help poor people in the neighborhood ? B : I suggest collecting unused clothes I suggest that we should collect unused clothes and give them to the poor people in the neighborhood - Call on some Ss to read aloud their suggestions Step 5 :Production : Noughts and Crosses: - Divide the class into two teams. One team is Nought ( O ) and the other is Cross ( X ). - Have two teams choose the words in the boxes in turns. And make sentences with the connectives given. If the sentence is correct, they will get one mark. - The team which has 3 Noughts or 3 Crosses in a line will win the game. - Draw this chart on the board and the game begins. * Possible answers: 1) Do you want to take a bath or take a shower? 2) I’ll get a plumber to check the pipes and to repair the faucets. 3) He got up late so he had to take a taxi to school. 4) It’s raining but he is still going swimming. 5) Her English is not good therefore she decides to practice more. 6) Baths use twice as much water, so I suggest taking showers. 7) The water bill is enormous this month because there is a crack in the pipes. 8) I suggest taking showers and fixing the faucet.
