Aims: - Help ss understand the content of the reading. - By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to read for the instructions about some more situations requiring first – aid . 2. Practice skill: - Practice reading. 3. The knowledge needs to get: + Standard knowledge: Read and choose a correct case for each of the treatments + Advanced knowledge: Retell the things that they should do in some cases that need first aid 4.Basic language: + Vocabulary: lye (v); flat (a); force (v) ; lock (v); elevate (v); victim (n); revive (v); overheat (v) ; minimize (v); ease(v); sterile(a). + Structures: Commands to give instructions 5. Attitude: Educate ss to learn hard, stay safe and know the ways to give first aid instructions in the home B. Teaching- aids: Lesson plan, textbooks, pictures, poster. C. Methods: - Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work - Some techniques can be used: matching, R&R, discussing. D. Procedure : I.Organization: ( 1 minute) - Greeting: Good morning! - Who’s absent today? Teacher’s activities Ss’ activities II. Warm up: Bingo (4’) - Ask Ss to give nouns for emergencies which require first – aid and write them on the board ( burn , cut , bee sting , snake bite , fainting , shock , nose bleed ) - Have Ss choose 4 and 4 words on the board and write them down on a piece of paper . - Call out the words until someone has ticked all the four words and shouts “ Bingo”. III. New lesson (37’) Step 1.Pre – reading : Introduce the topic of reading passage and some new words to Ss . 1. Pre – teach vocab: - lie flat (v): ( mime / drawing ) - elevate (v): (mime) - victim (n): (explanation) - overheat (v): (translation) - tissue damage (n): (translation) - ease (v): (translation) * Checking technique: Rub out and remember * Network - Draw the network with some examples on the board - Ask Ss to think of what to do in these emergency cases - Collect and write the students, ideas on the bard Step 2. While – reading: - Have Ss open their books and read the instructions page 83 * Matching : - Ask Ss to read the statements / page 84 and match tree Leadings A , B , C to them . Give feedback A -> a , c , e B -> b C -> d * Grid : - Draw the grid on the board . - Ask Ss to read the instructions again and fill the information . - Call on some Ss to the board to write their answers - Give feedback Cases Do Don,t Fainting - Leave the patient lying flat . - Elevate the patients, feet or lower his / her head . - Do not force him / her to sit or stand . Shock - Give him / her a cup of tea when he / she revives . - Do not overheat the victim with blankets or coat - Do not give the victim any food or drink or drug . Burns - Cool the burn immediately to minimize the tissue damage . - Put the affected part under a running cold tap . - Ease the pain with ice or cold water packs . - Cover the burned area with a thick sterile dressing . - Have Ss copy the grid in their notebooks . Step 3. Post – reading: - Ask Ss to work in groups to continue discussing how to give first aid . And Call on some volunteers from each group to demonstrate in front of class . - Whole class - Ss choose 4 and 4 words on the board and write them down on a piece of paper . - Individual - Have Ss copy down. - Repeat in chorus- individual. - Rewrite words. - T – Ss - Ss to think of what to do in these emergency cases. - Whole class -Ss to go to the board and add the missing information. - Individual - Ss to read the instructions again and fill the information . - Some Ss to the board to write their answers - Individual - Pair work - Group work . - Some volunteers from each group to demonstrate in front of class . IV. Summary: (1m) - Retell the main points of this lesson : What have you learnt?. V. Competencies: coperation, creativeness, self study. 3. Behavior: SS are excited about writing a thank-you note. II. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher:English 8, reference book, poster 2. Students: English 8, notebook. III. Procedure 1.Activity 1: Warm up( 5') a.Aims: Help students to review how to write an an informal letter, then lead in the lesson. b.Contents: write an informal letter. c.Outcome: Ss’answers. d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Brainstorming - asks Ss two questions: + How many parts are there in an informal letter? + What should each part include? - calls some groups to check - gives feedback and corrects, then asks Ss some more questions: + When do you write a thank-you note? + Have you ever written or received a thank-you note? - introduces the lesson: Today you are going to learn to write a thank-you note - discuss the questions in groups of 4 - call out the answers - answer the questions(WC ) - pay attention . 2.Activity 2: Pre- writing (12’) a.Aims: Students understand the content of the thank-you note and know how to write a thank-you note. b.Contents: Complete the thank-you note. c.Outcome: Ss’ answers. d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Gap-fill: Ex1-P84 - gives instructions: Complete the thank-you note Nga sent to Hoa after she left the hospital. Knowledge: Giving students further practice in “Future Simple tense, making requests, offers & promises and in order to/ so as to” to talk about purposes. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to do all the exercises using these grammar items. 2. Competences: Co-operation, communication, self-study, creativeness, solving problems, using language. + Totalizing knowledge to do exercises. Speaking, reading and writing. 3. Behavior: Ss love English and take part in the lesson actively and effectively. II. Teaching aids: - Teacher: Textbook, workbook, handouts. - Students: Prepare Language focus + Prepare some grammar items “in order to; so as to”, revise the future simple tense and model will to make requests, offers and promises.
