Objectives 1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a story about natural disaster using pictures and given words. 2. Competencies: Co-operation, self-study, to write a story about natural disaster using pictures and given words. 3. Quality: Love family and country, willing to participate in social activities, live humanty, cooperate with people around,… Ss have awareness of natural disasters. Ss must be careful with natural disaster. B. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher: cards 2. Students: Book, notebook III. Procedure: 1. Activity 1: Warm up (5') a. Aims: Check the lesson, lead in the new lesson b. Contents: Jumble words c.Outcome: students' answers. d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Check- up Greetings Who is absent today? What is the date today? Warm- up. - Check the old lesson * Jumble words: (cards) - Write the words whole letters are in a random order on the board. - Divide the class into two teams. Students from two teams go to the board and write the correct words. - The teams which write more correct words first win the game. 1. otnophy – typhoon 2. damotro – tornado 3. lacono – volcano 4. tearquake – earthquake 5. ormst – storm Greetings Answer teacher’s questions Come to board and write Vocabulary Teamwork 2. Activity 2: Presentation a.Aims: help ss to memorize some new words, set the sence. b.Contents: Vocaburlary, Ask and answer the questions. c.Outcome: ss can memorize how to read and write some new words,understand the request of the lesson. d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 1. Pre- writing a. Pre-teach vocabulary - behave (v): cư xử (translation) - shelter (n): chỗ trú ngụ (definition: a place of safely) - all of sudden (IDM): bất ngờ (synonym: suddenly) - scared = afraid * Checking vocabulary: what and where - Have students repeat the words chorally then rub out word by word but leave the circle. Remember to let students repeat before and after rubbing out each word. - Go on until students can remember the words. - Get students to write the words again in the correct circle. b. Telling the story - Show six pictures on the board - Set the scene: This is Lan’s family, they are at home - Ask some questions to elicit the story 1. Picture 1: - Who is this? It’s Lan - Where is she? She’s outside/in the garden. - What is she doing? She’s playing with her dog, Skippy. => Lan is out side playing with her dog. 2. Picture 2: - How is the dog? It looks strange. Perhaps is it scared?  All of a sudden, the dog behaves strangely 3. Picture 3: - What’s on TV? The weather forecast - What does Lan’s mother say? She tells Lan that she has just heard on TV that there is a typhoon coming.  Lan ran home and her mother tells her that there is a typhoon coming 4. Picture 4: - What are they doing? They are gathering and talking about the coming typhoon  Mrs. Quyen gathers her family and asks them to find shelter in the house. 5. Picture 5: - What’s the weather like now? It is very dark. It has strong wind a heavy rain  Suddenly, it becomes dark. The storm comes with strong win and heavy rain 6. Picture 6: - What’s the weather like now? It’s fine. - How are they now? They all are happy.  The storm finishes soon and everyone is glad - Ask some students to look at the pictures and retell the story - Repeat in chorus - Repeat individually - Write Come to board and write the rubbed words Pay attention Look at pictures and answer the questions 3. Activity 3: Practice a.Aims: Ss can write a complete story. b.Contents:write a story. c.Outcome:Ss’ answers. d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities - Have students write a story individually. The cues in the box on page 79 will help students to write easily - Ask students to use past tense. - Go around and help students to write. * Sample: It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the weather was perfect. Lan was outside playing with her dog, Skippy. All of a sudden, the dog began behaving strangely. She kept running around circles. Lan ran home with her dog to tell her mother what Skippy was doing. Lan’s mother, Mrs. Quyen told Lan that she heard on TV that there was a typhoon coming. Mrs. Quyen gathered her family and told them to find shelter in the house. Suddenly, the sky became very dark. The storm came with strong wind and heavy rain. Mrs. Queen and her family were scared. But soon the storm finished and everyone was glad. What a clever dog Skippy is. She saved Lan from being caught in the typhoon. Write individually 4. Activity 4: Application (10') a. Aims: further practice b. Contents: compare with a partner. c.Outcome: Ss’answers. d.Organization: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities - Get students to share with their partners and correct mistakes. * Correction: - Take some writing to correct on front of the class. - Ask students to rewrite their writings - Collect their papers and correct. Objectives 1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practice on Relative pronouns: who- which- that, review the vocabulary and grammar in Unit 8,9: Compliment, Adverb clauses of concession, 2. Competencies: Co-operation, self-study, to write a story about natural disaster using pictures and given words. 3. Quality: Love family and country, willing to participate in social activities, live humanty, cooperate with people around,… Ss have awareness of natural disasters. Ss must be careful with natural disaster. B. Teaching aids: 1. Teacher: Cassette, CD, pictures, sub board 2. Student: Text book, notebook C. Procedure : I.Organization: ( 1 minute) - Greeting: Good morning! - Who’s absent today? Steps/ Activities Content II : WARM UP (2 minutes) Option 1. Quiz - Divide the class into two teams. - Call out the questions and the students have to answer as quickly as possible. The team having the right answers gets good marks. The team, which has more marks, wins the games. * Questions: 1. Which country won the 1998 Tiger Cup? 2. Which animal has 1 or 2 horns on its snout? 3. Which explorer discovered America? 4. Which planet is closest to the earth? 5. Which animal was chosen to be the logo of Sea Games2003? 6. Which ASEAN country is divided into two regions by the sea? 7. Which food can you chew but can’t swallow? 8. Which thing can you swallow but can’t chew? - Option 2. Matching Question - Answer III: NEW LESSON (42minutes) Step1. Presentation : 1. Vocabulary : Elicit – Repeat – copy - check (picture) (picture) (translation) Sts : - listen. - listen and repeat (chorally then individually). - copy. Suggested phrases: 1. The synonym of “hit” ( strike ). 2. The nose or jaws of an animal ( snout ). 3. An outbreak or bursting forth ( eruption ). *Check: R & R 2. Revision of who - which or that - T reminds the relative clauses Step2. Practice: Play a game: Lucky apples - Have students work in pairs to do the exercise in Language Focus 1 on page 81. - Ask them to answer the questions, using the Relative pronouns which or who. - Give feedback. - Correct their pronunciation. - Have students work in closed pairs to ask and answer the questions. Step3 Further Practice: Combine each pair of sentences into one by using suitable Relative Pronouns. (From 5 to 10 item) 1. Have you ever spoken to the people? They live next door. 2. It’s a book. It will interest children of all ages. 3. The people keep having all night parties. They live next door. 4. These are the keys. They open the front door and back door. 5. Here’s an article. It might interest you. 6. Where are the eggs? They were in the fridge. 7. Do you have something? It will get ink out of the carpet. 8. Where’s the girl? She sells the tickets. 9. Half of the people didn’t appear. They were invited. 10. The festival is called Easter. It is in the late March or early April. Step1. Presentation : Adverb clause of concession 1/- Although, though, eventhough, even if + clause Ex: Although/Though it rained heavily, they went out with their family. Even if you don’t like me, I will be here with you. Even if it takes 10 years, I still wait for her. Note: Sau mệnh đề chỉ sự nhượng bộ chỉ dùng dấu phẩy (,) không dùng “but” 2/- Despite, In spite of + N phrase/ Ving Ex: Despite his poverty/ In spite of his poverty, he succeeded in his life. Despite the bad weather, they continued climbing the mountains. 3/- However = No matter how: cho dù thế nào đi nữa. However + adj/ adv + S + V… Ex: However cold the water is, I will swim. However quickly he ran, he couldn’t catch the bus. No matter how terrible life is, I always feel optimistic. 4/- Whatever = Whatsoever = No matter what: dù gì đi nữa Ex: Whatever happens, I will love you forever. Whatever books he reads, he will never learn anything. Step 2. Practice: Play a game (Pull the carrot) Use although, but, however or however 1. my sister is very beautiful and intelligent, she hasn't got a boyfriend. 2.He may have some strong points, he's weird.(kì lạ) 3.Linda dresses shabbily(xoàng xĩnh/ xấu) she buys a lot of dresses every month. 4.I tried very hard. , I can't find the book you lent me.
